READ WITH ME NYC

I have worked with children for over a decade to strengthen their literacy skills. In addition to evaluating kindergarten readiness, I provide one-on-one coaching for the Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners (ABBL). This test is given to all applicants 4-6 years old to measure development in verbal and quantitative reasoning, early literacy and mathematics. Children familiar with the test material and format will be more relaxed and do their best work when it counts the most. I also prepare children for their interview, typically the main determinant for admissions decisions.

Ultimately, my goal is to cultivate confidence, competence, and the joy of learning in every child.

MY Services

Following an initial assessment, I develop well-defined goals and a specialized plan to match your child’s reading level and learning style. Our one-on-one sessions consist of reading, writing, and spelling activities designed to be challenging yet fun. Restoring a child’s self-confidence and excitement for academics is crucial to our success. By consulting with you and your child's teacher, these sessions will be designed to fully complement in-school and at-home activities. I already work closely with many public and private schools in Manhattan. Throughout the process, I provide comprehensive feedback in writing so you can closely track your child’s progress.

Key Developmental Areas

To help make the school interview process, academic skills evaluation, and overall transition into kindergarten all successful, I focus on these key areas:

Social Emotional Development: Does your child separate well? Adjust to new situations and unfamiliar people? Interact with other children in a "playdate" evaluation?

Language Development: Can your child identify all the letters of the alphabet? Know the sound each letter makes? Distinguish between numbers and letters? Upper and lowercase? After reading to your child, can they summarize the beginning, middle, and end?

Cognitive Development: How high can your child count? Can they sort objects according to color, size, and shape? Recognize and extend patterns? Is your child developing strong number sense? Do they understand positional and directional concepts? Do they know opposite words?

Physical Development (fine & gross motor): Can your child skip, march, and balance on one foot? Hold a pencil correctly? Trace letters and numbers?

Creative Art: Does your child recognize all her colors and use them realistically when drawing a self-portrait? Represent themselves with detail? Use the entire paper? Is your child in the pre-schematic or schematic developmental art stage?

About me

I hold a dual Master’s degree in Special & General Education. During my graduate fieldwork at Bank Street College, I was trained in The Wilson Reading System. I am certified in Preventing Academic Failure (PAF), an early intervention program based on the Orton-Gillingham methodology with robust empirical support. It’s extremely effective for teaching reading, spelling, and handwriting for children in grades K-3 with learning difficulties or disabilities. I’m also experienced with Sounds In Motion, a program teaching phonemic awareness, early literacy, auditory perception and articulation through movement
